In an oral history, Sweeney reportedly recounted how Chase came into his dressing room and apologized for the AIDS joke, but “he was angry that he had to apologize to me.”
In the documentary, Chase responded, “My memory is that he was lying, that’s my memory. He wasn’t telling the truth. That’s not me. That’s not who I am. If I were that, my life would have changed because I now have to live with that for the rest of my life.”
In response to Chase’s comments in the documentary, Sweeney replied: “It all rightly reflects how horrible he is!”
