90 day fiancé Star Elizabeth Castravit A tribute to her father, Chuck Pottastafter his death.
“Two weeks ago, tragedy struck our family and left us completely devastated. My sweet, loving, caring dad went to heaven. We are trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward without him,” Elizabeth, 34, via Instagram Sunday, November 23, at Andre Cucumber.
The message concluded: “Please respect our privacy during this extremely difficult time.”
Potthast appeared in multiple episodes of the show 90 day fiancé, where the audience watches ups and downs Elizabeth and Andrei’s relationship since the season five premiere.
This couple, who initially crossed paths Elizabeth and Andrei, 39, tied the knot in 2017 and later welcomed daughter Eleanor and son Winston. in 2019 and 2022 respectively.
Two years later, Andre joked in an exclusive interview US Weekly Elizabeth’s family was “like a cult.”
Andre quipped in 2024: “We should cast you in an escape-the-cult type series. She did a great job! I’m so excited to have you back.”
Elizabeth laughs and says her family is “not bad.” The pair said they only spoke to Chuck and her sister, Becky Pottast.
“The rest of us didn’t speak for years,” Andre said, while Elizabeth explained that distancing herself from her family had eased the tension in her marriage.
“Of course we don’t argue that often,” she said. “They really stepped between us. Overall, our home is calmer.”
Reflecting on her dynamic with her family, Elizabeth explained what led to their feud.
“Everyone would get together and discuss my decision. It got to the point where it was just too toxic,” she shared. “I really only talk to my dad and Becky and sometimes my mom. Honestly, once I’ve been apart for a while, I’ve seen how good it is, you get a different perspective on life in the world. I don’t want to go back to that toxic state.”
In Andre’s eyes, just because they were a family didn’t mean they had to stay in a “toxic” environment.
“You don’t sacrifice your life,” he said. “You have to think about yourself too.”
While Elizabeth eventually realized the “hurt” her family had done her, she noted that it was possible for her to reconcile with them “in the future.” At the time, however, Elizabeth said she was happy with the space.
“At some point, I feel like it’s definitely going to come up, or something will come up, but not now,” she said. “Will they change? Will people change? I don’t think they will.”
Andre said that regardless of time and space, he believes her family “will never change.”
“The people will not change,” he said. “I can’t accept this kind of toxicity in my relationship.”
