“The American President” (1995)
February is the month for lovers, at least according to Hallmark and chocolate companies around the world. I’ve never been a big fan of Valentine’s Day, but it gave me an excuse to watch one of my favorite romantic comedies – President of the United States.

Made in a less divisive era, the film is a wish-fulfillment fantasy in which political leaders are respectable figures and people do what they say they will do. Douglas and Bening have a great rapport that makes you invested in their characters’ relationship—you root for them to hook up, even when polls say they shouldn’t. Supporting cast, which features pre-west wing Martin Sheen and one that has never been better Michael J. Foxgreat, you wish you could vote them into power and run our country.

“Black Phone” (2021)
black phone 2 The horror movie was a huge hit last summer, but like most sequels, it just wasn’t as good as the original. A big reason is that it made its iconic killer “The Predator” (Ethan Hawke), a supernatural monster who was far more effective when he played a child-murdering serial killer in the more realistic original, black mobile phone.

This monster could very well exist in real life and echoes all those scary real life stories I’ve seen Unsolved mysteries as a child.

“Rabbit” (2025)
Today is bunny day (mostak) birthday, but his life was so chaotic that he doubted he could live it again. His wife wants him to have a threesome with her friends, his landlady won’t stop nagging him, and his father-in-law stops by and accidentally takes some marijuana provided to him by his best friend and neighbor Dino (Ben Jacobsonwhich he also co-wrote and directed). But by far the worst thing about Bonnie’s day is the unexpected death of a man whose body he must dispose of before the police arrive.

Believe it or not, rabbit It’s a comedy, albeit one filled with murder, prostitution and drugs. It’s a weird and sweet life story about a New Yorker who can’t seem to catch a break and the community that comes together to help him, even if it does mean breaking the law. style somewhere in between Sean Baker and safdie brothers But it has its own unique authenticity, rabbit Utilizing its gritty look and feel to accurately capture hot-weather life in the East Village. It’s a little movie about little people, but it lasts longer than you might think.
