14 top agtech, food startups from the Disrupt Startup Battlefield


Every year, TechCrunch’s Startup Battlefield pitch contest attracts thousands of applicants. We count the programs so far Top 200 competitorsand from them, the top 20 compete on the main stage of the Startup Battlefield Cup with a cash prize of $100,000. But the remaining 180 have confused us, too, in their groups and in their competition.

Here’s the full list of agtech and food tech Startup Battlefield 200 nominees, along with a note on why they made it to the competition.

What it does: Äio has made a way production of edible oil from agricultural waste.

Why it matters: Äio has developed a type of yeast that turns large amounts of agricultural waste like sawdust into oils suitable for food and cosmetics.

Aquawise

What it does: Aquawise provides AI-powered water monitoring for shrimp and fish farms using satellite images.

Why it matters: The startup eliminates the need for expensive sensors while providing real-time information and predictive analytics.

Clave

What it does: Clave provides AI assistants that help fast food restaurants better interact with their data.

Forte Biotech Company Profile

What it does: Forte Biotech has developed a patented technology to test for diseases among prawns in fish farms.

Why it matters: Developed in collaboration with the National University of Singapore (NUS), this technology helps shrimp farmers identify common diseases without the need to hire experts.

Genesis

What it does: Genesis provides a business intelligence platform for soil information that helps agricultural businesses make better, more innovative decisions about their land and crops.

Why it matters: Genesis claims to have assembled one of the most comprehensive databases of data that augments soil analysis to increase productivity through remediation systems.

Greeny Solutions

What it does: Greeny Solutions provides AI-powered software and IoT tools for indoor commercial agriculture.

Why it matters: Greeny’s tech promises to optimize nutrient dosing, climate control, and disease management to increase yields.

Instacrops

What it does: Instacrops uses AI sensors, IoT, and satellite imagery to monitor and improve agricultural fields.

Why it matters: Y Combinator grad Instacrops uses hardware sensors and AI assistants to help farms respond to crop health signals — irrigation, fertilizer, etc. — in real time, boosting yields and reducing water use.

Kadeya

What it does: Kadeya operates a beverage station in the office that uses reusable bottles, which can be returned and washed and reused.

Why it matters: This startup removes single-use plastic bottles (or cans) from the workplace, as well as providing and cleaning the bottle, thus eliminating the need for companies to purchase beverages in plastic bottles to begin with.

MUI-Robotics

What it does: MUI-Robotics develops AI scent recognition for robots.

Why it matters: MUI-Robotics develops a digital sense of smell, which not only paves the way for various robotics but also has applications in smell/smell detection in food, medicine, medicine, and the environment.

Shin Starr Robotics

What it does: Shin Starr Robotics manufactures food processing robots for food delivery.

Why it matters: Verley helps to maintain the nutritional value of milk protein and reduce the environmental impact of dairy farming.
