A Kansas man is facing multiple charges after his 13-year-old neighbor was found dead in an apparent animal attack.

Linn County Sheriff James Akers Tell Fox 4 Authorities searched for Andula in communities near multiple bodies of water and lakes. However, the rugged terrain forced authorities to suspend search efforts.
According to a probable cause statement seen by FOX 4, the Bates County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Leonard during the course of the search.
Police claim they then went to Leonard’s home, where he told them he knew where the missing boy was. Leonard reportedly asked officials to go to the location of the body in Bates County, Missouri, about 30 miles from Pleasanton.
Andula’s cause of death has not yet been released. However, his mother Anita Gunntold Fox 4 that police explained to her that Allen was attacked and killed by an unknown number of dogs.
“(Police) said he was attacked by an animal and was found in the woods, attacked by an animal,” she told the outlet.
Additionally, FOX4 reported that investigators told Gunn that Leonard had nearly a dozen dogs at his home.
“It’s just devastating – I have no words. He was such a lovely boy… Alan was never in trouble, he never strayed too far from home, he never left or told us where he was going, so we knew something was wrong,” she said. “I just hope Allen gets justice. (Leonard) doesn’t know what kind of angel he took from us.”
On Monday, December 29, Leonard dropped the corpse charge, and new charges against Leonard were later announced. He now also faces charges of interfering with law enforcement, criminal blasphemy and having a vicious dog at large.
Leonard is being held in the Bates County Jail on $100,000 bail, according to online records reviewed. US Weekly. His next hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2026 at 9:30 a.m.
The Sheriff’s Office said it will not lead the investigation to ensure a “thorough and transparent process.” The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department will take over the case, with assistance from the Kansas State Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Response Team and the Bates County, Missouri Sheriff’s Office.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends during this extremely difficult time,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a statement to Fox 4. “Our community is mourning this heartbreaking loss, and we respectfully ask that the privacy of their grieving family be respected.”
The Pleasanton School District, where Andula attended, also addressed his tragic death in a statement.
“$344 mourns the tragic passing of one of our beloved students with a heavy heart. This loss is deeply felt by the entire school community. He was an important part of $344, and his passing is deeply saddened by classmates, faculty, staff, and all who knew him,” the statement read. “We extend our deepest condolences to the family during this extremely difficult time. We ask that our community cares for the family, prays for them, and respects their privacy as they grieve.”
